Building of the AT & T Park in San Francisco

As widely reported, Conco was awarded the concrete package for the $1.2 billion San Francisco 49ers stadium currently being constructed in Santa Clara, CA.  The award was based on our years of experience and a large portfolio that includes previous work on arenas.  Among our many projects is the work we did on the AT & T Park for the San Francisco Giants.  AT & T is the third name for the park that was originally named Pacific Bell Park when the arena opened in 2000, and then became SBC Park in 2003 until receiving the current name in 2006.

Conco’s contribution on the project was to do all the cast in place concrete for the ballpark, which is located in the South of Market neighborhood of San Francisco.  What made this stadium project different is that it was the first privately funded Major League Baseball Park built since 1962.  The 41,503 seat stadium cost $255 million to build and was designed by the architectural firm of HOK Sport and the Construction Managers were Huber, Hunt & Nichols, Inc. and Kajima Construction Services.  The stadium is the first MLB facility to receive LEED Silver certification.

The Giants’ park offers beautiful views of the Bay Bridge and the marina as well as a 9 ft. tall statue of Willie Mays ‘ located at the homeplate entrance.  There is an inter-active play area that features an 80-foot wooden Coca-Cola bottle with four slides inside and also the world’s largest baseball glove.  Conveniently located near public transportation, it offers easy access to the park.  For the inauguration of the Sports Business Awards program, the AT & T Park received the “2008 Sports Facility of the Year” award from the Sports Business Journal and Sports Business Daily.
