For all of you that have followed our blog posts or stories in the press on the world’s largest continuous mat pour, we have put together a collection of pictures to try and give you a sense of the excitement. The Conco Companies invite you to check out Flickr to see for yourself the amazing accomplishment that took place this past February on our historic pour for the Wilshire Grand in downtown Los Angeles.
Conco’s pictorial journal tells the story of the day’s events beginning with the USC marching band’s musical kick-off of the festivities. The actual pour started at 4:47 p.m., Saturday, February 15, 2014, and continued over the next 18 ½ hours (1 ½ hours under the projected time) to break the Guinness World Record.
We think you will agree that the pictures demonstrate the impressive capabilities of the Conco Companies in terms of our state-of-the-art equipment. We even used our new electric pump, which is one of the most powerful electric pumps operating west of the Mississippi and is capable of pushing concrete all the way to the top of the skyscraper.
In all, we used fifteen boom pumps, two high-pressure stationary pumps, two placing booms, and operated more than 2,500 feet of pipe throughout the pour to get the concrete to the foundation. Four of the pumps on the project were new along with a brand-new placing boom. We even had three boom pumps parked nearby in case of a breakdown, but none of the backup pumps were ever needed.
Additionally the photographs really help to give a sense of the scope and size of the job! We have said it before but it bears repeating that the best part of the whole project was that it was done without a single injury. You better believe that Conco recognizes the fact that it took our whole team of highly professional and hard-working employees to successful undertake and complete the herculean task.
